5 Senses Science Fun

We have been having lots of fun launching our science study this year.  We started by brainstorming and reading about what scientists do.  Then, we talked about how we would be scientists this year and do all of these things.

Last week was all about using our 5 senses to learn about our world.  My teammate found this silly song on YouTube.  Warning: the kids will love it but there is a good chance you will hear it in your dreams... literally.  You might wake up at 4:06 am with it running through your brain over and over and over.  My students also enjoyed this one and this one.

Brainpop Jr also has a fabulous video on the 5 senses!  You will need a membership to view this video. (I highly recommend considering a membership.  It is a fabulous site with lots of great resources.)

We took a walk around campus and recorded what we learned about our environment from our senses in our science journals.  The kids LOVED the sorting cards that I put in the science center (forgot to take a photo...oops!).  These simple little posters helped to anchor our learning throughout the week.

On Friday we decided to use our senses for a delicious scientific investigation!
This 5 Senses Popcorn Investigation Freebie was SO MUCH fun.  While we were cooking our  microwave popcorn we recorded what we could hear and smell.  Then, we studied the popcorn using our senses of sight and touch.  Finally, everyone was very happy to TASTE the popcorn.  Yum.  This set is offered free HERE.  The anchor charts and sorts that we used this week are available HERE

Have a great week!
